Count on the Classic – Negroni
A Classic Italian Cocktail
What is a Negroni Cocktail and Where Did It Originate?
The Negroni is one of the most popular cocktails in the world, and for good reason. It’s a simple but delicious drink that can be enjoyed by anyone. But how did it come to be? What is the history of the Negroni?
The Negroni is said to have been invented in 1919 by Count Camillo Negroni at Caffe Casoni in Florence, Italy. Count Negroni was a regular at the cafe, and he was a fan of the Americano cocktail. One day, he asked the bartender to make him an Americano using gin instead of soda water. The bartender was intrigued by the request, and he made the drink. Count Negroni loved it, and he asked the bartender to make him another one. The bartender made him another one, and another one. Soon, the Negroni was a regular on the menu at Caffe Casoni.
The Negroni quickly became popular throughout Italy, and it eventually made its way to the United States.
